Students Support Teacher on Senior Trip

A graduating class with only four girls isn t something you see everyday and neither is a senior trip planned around a teacher The four girls graduating from Burke Central brought one of their teachers to Minot today and spent the day being pampered Karna Lillebo caught up with them this morning and has the details on their girls day out It s not the senior trip destination you might expect but when your graduating class consists only of four girls it s not surprising that it takes place at day spa Carrie Fagerland Burke Central Senior We re almost done with school so this is our last party together Carrie Kristin Jodi and Melissa from Burke Central High School spent the morning at Artistry Salon in Minot getting manicures pedicures and facials Jodi Arnold Burke Central Senior I m not much of a girlie girl so I was kind of skeptical but I m having a really good time Karna Lillebo KX News But the girls didn t come here alone They re sharing this day of pampering with someone very special to them Jodi Arnold Burke Central Senior We brought our English teacher and she has just been a big part of our high school careers Kristin Bloom Burke Central Senior Her door is always open If you need her at school or for personal problems or whatever she s always been there Judy Durick teaches 7th - 12th grade English at Burke Central She is a proud cancer survivor and didn t let her illness keep her from the classroom Judy Durick English Teacher The kids were very understanding when I had to sit down on the job a lot of the time I think it was an educational period for both the kids and myself Durick is retiring at the end of this school year and while she s anxious to see the world she has mixed feelings about leaving the career and the people that have filled her life Judy Durick English Teacher I am afraid a little bit or what I will find out there that I won t be as fulfilled as I was as a teacher I ll miss the kids and I ll miss the staff that I work with As for the class that invited her to join them for their last hurrah she says they re a special bunch Judy Durick English Teacher When I said we re going to study Macbeth they said And can we study Hamlet And when we studied Hamlet they said And can we study King Lear So as and English teacher what more could I want Except maybe a little pampering and a new memory to last a lifetime Karna Lillebo KX News The group also had bowling shopping and a movie on their agenda for the day
