Doctors are encouraging a new group of people to get tested for breast cancer They say men can carry genes that raise the risk of the disease Those genes are most prevalent among those of Eastern European Jewish descent More than 2 thousand are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer
The next time you have a sinus infection you may not want to ask for an antibiotic New research shows the ailment isn t really helped by antibiotics and other medicine that s often prescribed In the study people suffering from facial pain and a runny nose with greenish or yellowish mucus generally improved in about two weeks whether they took antibiotics or fake medicine Doctors say over-the-counter painkillers or squirting salt water into the nose to flush out mucus may provide adequate relief
Americans may not be getting any fatter these days The Centers for Disease Control says obesity rates have leveled off About 33 percent of adult men and 35 percent of women were obese in 2005 to 2006 That s about the same rate that was reported in a 2003 to 2004 survey The report also found that about a third of obese adults hadn t been told by a doctor that they were overweight
Fasting for one day each month may protect the heart A study found that people who skipped meals once a month were about 40 percent likely to have clogged arteries than those who didn t regularly fast Fasting reportedly forces the body to dip into fat reserves to burn calories It also keeps the body from being constantly exposed to sugar and having to make insulin to metabolize it
